The organisers of the Sziget Festival, a week-long musical extravaganza on an island in the Danube, are teaming up with the local unit of mobile communications company Vodafone to keep festival-goers connected.

Sziget and Vodafone will offer visitors customizable handsets for a reduced price to one-day and full-week pass holders. Festival-goers can use the phones to call friends on the island or abroad for a special low rate.

“The community of Sziget festival-goers exceeds the population of a town the size of Pécs and represents a subculture – active for a whole week – the inner ties of which we aim to draw even closer, building on shared interests, shared experience and existing and new friendships. In the city of mobile innovation, Vodafone intends to strengthen the connections between Sziget festival-goers,” said Péter Lakatos, who heads strategy, brand and communications at Vodafone Hungary.

Festival-goers who are already Vodafone subscribers will be able to take advantage of pre-purchase tickets that are charged by the minute.

Island-goers can also sign up for a free text message service called Sziget InfoSMS.
